Overview

PARTS MANANGER

MAJOR OBJECTIVES:

The main objectives of the parts manager position are to maintain overall shop productivity by management, stocking, and maintenance of an organized and efficient Parts Room.  They will perform and/or supervise all shop purchases related to maintenance and repairs of Acres’ trucks, trailers, tractors, small engines and all related equipment.  They will implement and utilize a comprehensive and efficient system for the inventory and usage of all shop supplies, as well as, for receiving part from vendors, supplying parts to mechanics, and invoicing the proper Division or customer.  In the absence of the Service Manager, the Parts Manager will substitute by managing all shop operations.  They will actively participate in planning and decision making for the shop, and work to continually improve its operation and manage its growth.  The parts manager will also maintain a positive image for Acres in the field and in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Purchase parts and supplies in the most cost effective manner possible utilizing a purchase order system.
    • Monitor and assure all parts returns are accredited.
    • Implement a proper core policy for all rebuilt parts.
    • Purchase all oil and fluids and supervise a cost effective and environmentally responsible means of their waste disposal. Track usage and fill as needed.
    • Assure mechanics are equipped with proper liquid shop supplies, penetrating oils, antifreeze, etc., and monitor their usage. Supply mechanics with miscellaneous shop supplies such as:  air hoses, drop lights, sanding discs, etc., and monitor their usage.
    • Communicate unusual or abnormal oil, fluid or shop supply usage patterns to the Service Manager.
    • Purchase with Service Manager’s approval all small tools for shop toolbox.
    • Inventory all shop tools on a quarterly basis (goal for 2018).
    • Inventory service truck(s) semi-annually.(goal for 2018)
    • Monitor and assure all batteries, tires, and scrap steel is returned to vendors or recycled.
    • In conjunction with Fleet and Service Managers, tag all small engine equipment and retire tag numbers when selling or disposing equipment.
    • Maintain the parts room in an organized manner.
    • Implement and utilize a comprehensive and efficient system of receiving parts from vendors and supplying parts to Mechanics and Acres’ Divisions.
    • Implement with the Service Manager a comprehensive system for Inventory Control and Invoicing in conjunctions with Fleet Manager.
    • Assure all parts purchased are invoiced to proper division or customer. Total all parts pricing on invoices.
    • Monitor commonly used parts and in a cost effective manner stock parts to keep shop production to a maximum.
    • Focus on productivity always. Keeping mechanics busy is a priority.
    • Assure that other personnel can follow through on pending and outstanding orders in the Parts Manager’s absence.
    • Enforce Acres’ policies and procedures and implement disciplinary procedures when necessary.
    • Assist Service Manager with generating Repair Orders.
    • Aid in any technical assistance to Mechanics.
    • Perform or supervise service calls during snow operations and in emergency situations.
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with your manager, other managers and coworkers.
    • Use independent judgment to develop creative solutions to problems that arise.
    • Identify problem areas, make suggestions and assist in implementing solutions in conjunction with your manager.
    • Assist in ensuring that our trucks and equipment present a positive image to the public by their level of cleanliness and state of repair.
    • Attend meetings as required.
    • In conjunction with Service Manager and Human Resources, maintain updated electronic S.D.S. (safety data sheet) inventory.
    • Covering the shop during snow storms, assisting the Service Manager dispatching mechanics out in the field for repairs.

Qualifications

  • REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

    • The ability to identify problems and work in conjunction with others to implement effective solutions.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • The capacity to drive to all work sites and execute field repairs of vehicles and equipment.
    • The ability to lift at least 60 pounds.
    • Knowledge of snow removal and equipment.
    • Some computer skills (data entry)

     

    PREREQUISITES:

    • One (1) to three (3) years previous Parts experience.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years Mechanical experience.
    • Valid class D Drivers’ License required—Class C desired
    • Bilingual Spanish (read/write) highly desirable.
