Shop/Fleet - Truck Mechanic




The main objectives of the Mechanic position are to contribute to the efficiency and quality of Acres’ work by performing quality work according to Acres standards.  They will follow through on daily and weekly assignments set by the service manager and will keep the manager informed of progress and problems on the job.  The mechanic will maintain a positive image for Acres by keeping the vehicles and equipment, the shop, and the wash bay (if applicable) professional looking at all times, and they will help in preparation of trucks and equipment and assure its readiness and safety for crew usage on a timely basis during both the landscape and snow removal seasons.  They will actively participate in planning and decision making for the shop, and work to continually improve its operation and manage its growth. The mechanic will also maintain a positive image for Acres in the field and in the industry.


  • Repair brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, computer, air, exhaust, drive line, axle assemblies and all related systems.
  • Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, hydraulic, and air operated power tools.
  • Estimate and communicate to your manager approximate time lines for repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance service on all vehicles and equipment per established Company policy.
  • Evaluate status of vehicles and equipment; communicate condition to your manager.
  • Clearly record in detail, repairs or maintenance done on a shop repair order.
  • Perform thorough pre-safety lane vehicle inspections and be responsible for vehicle certification.
  • Change and repair tires and tubes.
  • Cut and weld metals, utilize torch-cutting skills.
  • Work to meet daily goals and deadlines in order to ensure vehicles and equipment are ready on a timely basis for crew usage, especially during the transition period between seasons.
  • Actively participate in the snow removal program.  Assure that vehicles and equipment are functioning properly during snowstorms and that they are serviced adequately in preparation for upcoming storms.
  • Perform service calls during snow operations and in emergency situations as needed.
  • Be flexible to perform maintenance and repairs when trucks and equipment are not in production, either before crews go out or when crews come in at the end of the workday.
  • Be open to and make suggestions for improving equipment or repair procedures, have the willingness to experiment for improvement.
  • Assist in ensuring that our trucks and equipment present a positive image to the public by their level of cleanliness and state of repair.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including safety procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the cleanliness of the shop and wash bay (if applicable) including attending to the details.  Ensure these areas are always presentable enough to take clients on even unplanned tours.
  • Use independent judgment to develop creative solutions to problems that may arise on the job.
  • Be responsible for timely reporting of time-sheets and other required paperwork as directed by your manager.
  • Assure productivity levels are maintained to standard in the shop.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Must be available during our snow removal efforts--ranging in time/date (depending on weather) from 11:30AM to 8PM any day of the week (Nov thru March)


  • The ability to identify problems and work in conjunction with others to implement effective solutions.
  • The capacity to drive to all work sites and execute field repairs of vehicles and equipment.
  • The ability to lift at least 60 pounds.
  • The capability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Own and utilize a roll-away toolbox with basic Mechanic’s hand and air tools.
  • Have the ability to drive and operate all of Acres’ vehicles and equipment.
  • Must have a valid drivers license, CDL is desirable.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years mechanical experience.
  • Knowledge of Landscape and Snow Removal equipment.Must be able to read, write and speak English.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) is helpful.
  • Union shop--pay up to $25.50 per hour --depending on experience
