    The main objectives of the Small Engine Mechanic position are to contribute to the efficiency and quality of Acres Group (Hayden) work by performing quality work according to Hayden standards.  They will follow through on daily and weekly assignments set by the shop manager and will keep the manager informed of progress and problems on the job.  The small engine mechanic will maintain a positive image for Hayden by keeping the vehicles and equipment, the shop, and the wash bay (if applicable) professional looking at all times, and they will help in preparation of equipment and assure its readiness and safety for crew usage on a timely basis during both the landscape and snow seasons.  They will actively participate in planning and decision making for the union shop, and work to continually improve its operation and manage its growth. The small engine mechanic will also maintain a positive image for Hayden in the field and in the industry.





      • Repair small engine equipment for lawn and snow crews, such as snow blowers, four wheelers, snow plows, lawn mowers, weed whips, etc..
      • Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
      • Estimate and communicate to your manager approximate time lines for repairs.
      • Evaluate status of equipment; communicate condition to your manager.
      • Clearly record in detail, repairs or maintenance done on a shop repair order.
      • Work to meet daily goals and deadlines in order to ensure equipment is ready on a timely basis for crew usage, especially during the transition period between seasons.
      • Actively participate in the snow removal program. Assure that equipment is functioning properly during lawn and snow seasons and that they are serviced adequately in preparation for the upcoming season.
      • Perform service calls during snow operations and in emergency situations as needed.
      • Be open to and make suggestions for improving equipment or repair procedures, have the willingness to experiment for improvement.
      • Assist in ensuring that our equipment presents a positive image to the public by the level of cleanliness and state of repair.
      • Follow all company policies and procedures, including safety procedures.
      • Assume responsibility for the cleanliness of the shop and wash bay (if applicable) including attending to the details. Ensure these areas are always presentable enough to take clients on even unplanned tours.
      • Use independent judgment to develop creative solutions to problems that may arise on the job.
      • Be responsible for timely reporting of timesheets and other required paperwork as directed by your manager.
      • Assure productivity levels are maintained to standard in the shop.
      • Attend meetings as required.
      • Give and receive constructive criticism.





      • The ability to identify problems and work in conjunction with others to implement effective solutions.


      • The capacity to drive to all work sites and assist in field repairs if needed.


      • The ability to lift at least 60 pounds.


      • The capability to work effectively under pressure.


      • Own and utilize a toolbox with basic hand and power tools.


      • Have the ability to drive and operate all of Hayden’s vehicles and equipment.





      • Must have a valid drivers license, Class C is desirable.


      • Three (3) to five (5) years small engine mechanical experience.


      • Knowledge of Landscape and Snow equipment.


      • Must be able to read, write and speak English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is helpful.


      • Some welding and torch experience required. 
      • Union Shop--hourly pay up to $19.40 per hour---medical benefits
